"Through Warhol's Lens," highlights a recent gift from the Andy Warhol Foundation Photographic Legacy Program of photographs by the legendary Pop artist. To honor the 20th anniversary of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, in 2007 the University Art Museum became one of a number of American educational institutions to receive a gift of original Polaroid and black and white photographs by Andy Warhol. The program’s purpose is to provide broad public access to an important but little known body of Warhol’s work. The Colorado State gift includes Warhol’s photographs of notable public personalities such as Martha Graham, Truman Capote, Mick Jagger, Paloma Picasso, Edward Kennedy and John Denver.

During the span of the Warhol exhibit, the Fort Collins community and visitors are invited to the University Art Museum to blog about Andy Warhol: share your memories of Andy Warhol’s visit; share your thoughts about the time period in which Warhol worked; be a critic for fifteen minutes (or just a few) and respond to questions about Andy Warhol’s photography posed in text panels throughout the exhibit.

The second exhibit, Warhol's Flowers, features ten original large silk screened works on loan from the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. The Flowers are important images from Warhol’s body of work; the first use of the image, in 1964, was the focus of Warhol’s first solo exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. The paintings, based on a photograph of hibiscus blossoms, were replicated in psychedelic, fluorescent pigments manufactured by the Day-Glo Corporation. The exhibition, Andy Warhol’s Flowers compliments the vibrant display of colors in the neighboring Annual Flower Trial Gardens at Colorado State University.

Kevin Karrick is known as an accomplished guitarist and vocalist, as well as band leader, doing whatever it takes to make the band the best it can be. Most often thought of as a jazz artist, his roots in classic and progressive rock, and knowledge of music of the swing era are tastefully revealed in his performances, which he does equally well as a soloist, with a jazz trio, or with his dance band, Swing Essence.
