The Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art will present an exhibition that highlights the variety and quality of Fort Collins art collections. Fort Collins Collects, curated by FCMOCA?s Executive Director, Marianne Lorenz, demonstrates the breadth and depth of local collections and allows visitors a ?peek? into the lives and passions of the collectors. ?This exhibition has something for everyone,? says Lorenz, ?from mid-century decorative arts to old master drawings and contemporary sculpture, Fort Collins Collects should appeal to a variety of tastes and interests.?

The idea for the exhibition was born out of a routine visit by Lorenz to the home of Melissa Katsimpalis, who is the President of the FCMOCA Board:

?I was sitting in the living room and just as I was about to put my cup of tea down, I realized that the table next to me was a rare and important side table designed by Edward Wormley for Dunbar Furniture in the late 1950?s. I immediately recognized it from the signature Tiffany tiles that cover the table top. I began to wonder how many other treasures such as this are in the community and are worthy of sharing with our museum audiences?? said Lorenz.

Early in the process, Lorenz decided that objects chosen for the exhibition would not be limited to ?contemporary? fine or decorative arts. ?I wanted to include collectors who have a broad range of interests and tastes?I did not want to leave anything out because of the date a work of art was made?I wanted to include the best from an assortment of periods and art interests?I think this is what will make the show accessible to everyone?whether or not they are interested in contemporary art.?

Ultimately, the exhibition came to include some contemporary art ?gems,? such as a large Dave Yust painting from the collection of Gary and Carol Ann Hixon as well as a rare 19th century drawing by English artist Edward Francisco Burney from the collection of Larry Hartford and Torleif Tandstad.
